Flogos or flying logos I believe is going to be the next fad in advertising. Advertisers are always thinking of new ways to advertise and there’s no stopping them from doing anything that technology allows. It seems like they’d jump into an idea whenever their imaginations meets reality.

Flogos - Peace
Flogo says Peace

Oh yes, you see that photo just right. These flogos fly like clouds. Back in the 90’s when I was still staring at the clouds imagining the shape of my favorite superhero, two international special effects inventors, Francisco Guerra and Brian Glover, wondered what would happen if they could make clouds into shapes. What if they can make logos? And so they did and Flogos was born - www.flogos.net.

These cloud-like flying logos are actually a mix of soap-based foams and helium. The machines that produce it can pop one flogo every 15 seconds. Size range from 24 to 48 inches and they typically fly around 300 to 500 feet but they can even fly as high as 20,000 feet if the conditions are right (but who’d see it at that height anyway?). At that height, you might worry about airplanes hitting it but that’s no big deal. Hitting a flogo is just like hitting a cloud. It will even safely pass through a jet engine.

Flogo - Mickey
Look Ma Mickey’s flying!!!

Flogos are also environmentally friendly. They’ll just burst harmlessly in the air. The foam used is plant-based which means it’s organic. It does not pollute the skies.

But how much does it cost? Well, it’s not very cheap if you’re just planning to use for fun but using it for advertising might be just well worth it - especially for branding purposes. Renting the machine for a day costs around $2,500. Balloons (other way to advertise in the air) are cheaper but Flogos are more fun.

Flogo - Apple
Dude, my iPod logo is flying!

I was doing some math and I realized that if you rent a Flogo machine for a day and say run it for about 4 hours then you’d have lots and lots and lots of Flogos in the air. 4 hours = 14,400 seconds and the machine can pop 1 Flogo every 15 seconds. That’s 960 Flogos flying in the air! Wow!

I haven’t seen these Flogos in action yet but I can already imagine one problem - the wind. Oh well, you can’t have them all. So, if you’re curious and if you want to find where these guys are then go to Alabama. SnowMasters, a research and development facility in northern Alabama is the home of what is now known as Flogos - or you can just check out their website.

Hey there folks! Just wish to share with you my recent experience with Paypal. The story goes like this…

Back in January 28, I tried withdrawing some cash from my PayPal account to my BPI Family Bank account (for those of you who don’t know, BPI Family Bank is in the Philippines). The withdrawal process was easy, smooth and fast. It just asked for the bank code, the account number and the amount I wish to withdraw. No, it didn’t ask for my account name but I thought it won’t be a problem. Before long the amount I was withdrawing was deducted from my PayPal account and I was given a message that I should receive the money in my bank account within 7 banking days - oh how excited I was!

7 days passed… still no money. Two weeks, three weeks, still no money. I contacted both PayPal and BPI Family Bank. BPI said they did not receive any and PayPal said that they didn’t receive any return of funds from my bank so I thought it might just be a pretty loooonnngggg delay. After repeatedly contacting both my bank and PayPal, my bank finally informed me that they returned the funds to PayPal because the account name PayPal used was my business name. That of course is understandable because my account with PayPal is a business account.

Knowing that my money was returned to PayPal, I was already getting ready to contact PayPal about it but one day… when I logged on to PayPal, it just informed me that my account is now limited due to possible security issues. I’m pretty sure that no one knows my password but PayPal knows better. The thought however that this could be connected with my funds withdrawal came into mind. Nevertheless, I followed the steps that PayPal asked me to do to restore full access to my account and within 24 hours my account is back to normal and 24 more hours after that, the funds I tried to withdraw was returned to my PayPal account.

I knew it! The situation was related to my withdrawal and it does make sense. If someone was able to log on to my account and withdraw my funds to his/her bank account then it will result to a discrepancy with the bank due to the account name not matching - that is if the hacker does not have an account with the same account name as my business name of course. But that’s pretty unlikely.

So, what lessons did I learn?

  1. Never withdraw to your personal account if you have a business account because PayPal will use your business account for the transfer and therefore may result to discrepancies with the bank
  2. Never forget step 1.

All is well now except that I was charged 250 pesos for the failed transfer as listed in PayPal’s website. That’s OK with me. 250 pesos is not much for such a lesson as this.

I have one request to PayPal though. Is it possible that you good guys in PayPal provide an option to choose the account name for bank accounts? Make the choice just between the business name and contact name.

Lastly, will I still recommend using PayPal? Certainly! Businesses and individuals should have PayPal. If you don’t have one then sign-up now and make use of PayPal’s outstanding worldwide services.

I finally made my first real PayPal referral and here’s the letter I got from them.

Dear Transcendental Innovation Technologies,

Thank you for referring insert name here to PayPal. Because insert name here just signed up for a Premier or Business PayPal account, you are now eligible to receive a Merchant Referral Bonus.

Here’s how it works:

As soon as insert name here has used PayPal to receive a total of $200.00 USD in payments, you will receive your initial bonus of $1.00 USD, which will be deposited directly into your PayPal account.

In addition, once you’ve received your initial bonus, you will receive a residual payout based on the total amount of insert name here PayPal payments for 12 months after insert name here initial PayPal account creation.

PayPal encourages you to assist the new merchant get started with their account so you can get your money faster!

Sincerely,
PayPal

As you can see, it’s kinda funny that I get a bonus of $1.00 when my referral receives his first $200…  While I do appreciate the bonus, it’s just kinda low.  Well of course, I will also receive residual income 12 months after I get the $1.00.  Now I wonder, how much would that be?  Makes me think if pursuing PayPal as a source of referral income is a good idea.  Maybe yes, maybe no.  Well, it’s there anyway and it’s passive income so might as well get it going.

So there ya go, go ahead and sign-up as a PayPal Merchant if you’re interested.  After all, lots of people use PayPal so it’d be a good idea.

I was so excited when Paypal added the Philippines in its list of countries even if we were only allowed to send money back then. Then, as time passed by, they allowed us to accept payments as well. However, withdrawing your money from Paypal can only be done either through a Unionbank EON debit card or too your credit card and there was a fixed $5.00 fee per transaction. While that sucks, I was able to live with it.

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

Enter 2008 and now Paypal has finally raised the bar higher for Philippine Paypal users. Now, withdrawing funds to any local bank is possible and with very very very minimal charges - free if you’re transferring Php7,000 or higher and only P50.00 if lower than that. I enrolled my account immediately and tried withdrawing what I have in my Paypal account to my bank account. They say it should take 5 to 7 business days.

Don’t have a Paypal account yet? Get one now, it’s free!

They say that the internet is the great equalizer in that it gives equal opportunity to both rich and poor when it comes to making money. While I would say that there is some truth in that, I think it would also be fair to say that lots of MYTHS are being circulated online when it comes to internet marketing.

Gladly, someone stepped up to disprove the so many lies being told. This guy - Russell Brunson - took the matter at hand so seriously that he wrote a report about it and gave it to the world for free.

Free Internet Marketing Myth Report

But he did not stop there. As if what he’s done isn’t enough, this guy is giving a small reward to anyone who helps him spread the word.

Ok, I guess I’ve said enough to pique your interest a bit. You’ve got nothing to lose and you’ve got lots to gain. Get your free copy of the Internet Marketing Myth report and see the light. - Click here to download Internet Marketing Myth now.

I have three kids and they all make me proud but I didn’t expect my second child - Vhi - will make her first money at the age of six (6). The better part of the story is that she made it on her own - without any help from me or her mom. Now, the best part is that she made 1100% in profit!

How did she do it? We’ll get to that later. First, allow me to give you some background.

Among my three kids (Kei, Vhi and Jae), Vhi is the one who would come to me and say, “Daddy, pag marami ka ng pera, bili tayo ng ________ , ha?” (Daddy, when you already have lots of money, let’s buy ________, ok?” to which I would often reply with a sincere,”Ok, Vhi.” Then came a time when I realized that I have to let her know that making money is not as easy as she thinks it is so I told her that daddy has to work hard and make sure that business is good in order to make money. Then I taught her and her elder sister Kei the concept of saving. Eventually, Vhi learned the concept of “making money” on her own. Yes, on her own. How? Read on.

Vhi / Kei, Vhi, and Jae

One day, Kei asked Vhi if she can borrow her sister’s shorts. Vhi said, “OK, but you have to pay me 1 peso for that.” At first I laughed and while most of you would consider that as Vhi’s first earnings, I don’t simply because Vhi didn’t put any effort in it. Then came a time when Kei and Vhi sold some stuff at school and made little profit. Did I consider that as their first income? No, I didn’t merely because that would implant in their minds the idea of employment and not business. However, they are both learning already the concept of making money along the way.

Vhi’s Breakthrough

Last week, Vhi told her mom that she would make greeting cards and sell them in school so she can make money and buy herself a jacuzi - yes, a jacuzzi! I already knew that there’s something going on in Vhi’s little brain that would encourage her to push through with her plans but I didn’t intervene whatsoever.

To my surprise, my wife told me via chat that Vhi sold her first greeting card. She invested about 1 peso for it and sold it for 12 pesos - 1100% profit! I couldn’t really have imagined that she would have done it so soon. At this time, I know Vhi really made her first money. Why? Because it has all the ingredients needed to make one successful in making money. They are:

  1. A clear goal (she wants a jacuzzi)
  2. A clear method (she’ll make cards and sell it so she can buy her jacuzzi)
  3. A clear and decisive action (she made her card and sold it to her classmate)
  4. A clear income (she spent 1 peso and sold it for 12 pesos therefore making 11 pesos in net profit - 1100%)

You see, making money is not really that hard. Though Vhi is still thousands of pesos away from that jacuzzi she’s hoping to buy, I would say that she’s on the right track. This definitely teaches me a lesson especially now when I feel like money is so hard to make. Vhi just went through it and she enjoyed doing it.

To Vhi - money earned, to me - lesson learned.

Hey there folks, I feel funny today after I’ve watched a video (yeah from YouTube) as I can totally relate to it. After all these years trying to make money online, I still consider myself a newbie. I think I’ll keep on calling myself a newbie until I start making at least $1000 monthly from online earnings alone. Anyway, just wish to share the video below (my story follows thereafter)

I remember the very first days when I signed up for Google Adsense.  That was like 10 years ago.  I admit clicking on my ads and guess what, my account was closed.  Geez, what would I expect?  I was using blogger back then and I thought exactly like Zoobie.  Even better, before I got my “first” adsense account, I was so excited to making money online that I’d read through any info I can get online from sunset to sunrise and to think that I was still using dial-up then.  So imagine my internet bill.   The only difference between me and Zoobie is that Google didn’t call me nor did they confiscate my computer.  Hehehehe.

Well, there ya go.  To all the Zoobies out there, let’s keep this lesson in mind.

More Zoobie

Philippine blogger idol Abe Olandres agrees to sell the Pinoy Top Blogs project to Enthropia Philippines after several months of negotiation.  According to him, “It’s a decision that was very hard to make but I figured that the future of the project will be more secured with the new owners.”

It appears that he can no longer handle the project due to escalating problems such as server issues, time,  and finances.  While it is sad that Abe will no longer be “holding” Pinoy Top Blogs, I think it’s still a good and wise move for the benefit of the majority.

But what is Pinoy Top Blogs all about?  Why buy it in the first place?

Pinoy Top Blogs Screenshot

Pinoy Top Blogs is well, a website that lists the top Pinoy blogs based on unique hits and monthly hits.  That’s basically it.  But why buy it?  Well, traffic is one main reason to buy it.  Internet traffic is a much coveted goldmine for all internet marketers.  Where there’s traffic there’s money It’s as simple as that.  Will it make money for the new owner?  I’m not sure as Abe himself says that the site is not making any revenue at all.  Whatever reason Enthropia has to buy it must be good… after all why would they buy it if they didn’t see potential in it…

Anyway, congratulations to Abe and good luck to Enthropia.

Just got out of work and walking towards the MRT station in Ayala when this got my attention - advertisement on escalator handrails.

adsonescalator.jpg

As I know it, “Clear” is a new anti-dandruff shampoo and their choice of putting the ads on the black handrails of an escalator in Glorietta is a smart idea since black is often associated with no-dandruff.  I wonder where they will be placing ads next…
