Yesterday, my 7-year-old daughter asked me, “Dad, why didn’t you go to college?” I knew I had to answer carefully so as not to make her think that college is useless. Better yet, I do not want to upset my wife who, being a college graduate herself, gives high importance to finishing college. While I was still thinking for an answer, my daughter asked another question, “Don’t you want to be a doctor?”
I knew I had to answer so I simply said, “Because being a doctor won’t make me rich.”
At this point, my wife asked me, “And how do you plan to get rich?” to which I replied, “by doing the things that I need to do.”
Then again, my daughter asked, “but why didn’t you go to college?” and so I told my daughter the story.
Truth is, I never wanted school.
Though I’m always among the top of the class to the point where the first honor asks me for help, I never really had any interest in school. I find it boring and slow. I am a dreamer and I always wanted to fulfil my dreams and I find school to be slow in helping me fulfil my dreams. No offense to the school system which I find to be good in general. It’s just that I don’t fit in it. But that didn’t stop me from reaching for my dreams. I experimented with things, tried a lot of options, and went through a lot of failures but I would say that I’ve learned a lot more outside of school than what my classmates were learning inside those classrooms.
At the end, I encouraged my daughter to go to school. After all it is so far the best place other than home for her to hone her skills.

So that’s how it all works… I think of college very seriously that as if its my life, now I can see your point of view. I’m currently a second year college student but I look like as if I’m in my 20s and my classmates would agree. I think I’ll just have to take it easy now hehe.

Hi AL,
Well, I have to say that a College degree would help in starting a business especially in the area of getting partners but it’s not a requirement.

nothing beats having a transcript of records (TOR) to show, bro. it’s not just some grades you earn in college but it’s something that can back you up that your one hell good in your field. i know you are intelligent but if you only finished your schooling, you must have gotten to places more than where you are now.
i was caught in same situation once in college. pero kailangan mong magtapos kahit anong kurso just so you completed something. importante is nakatapos. you won’t be sure anyway that you will be practicing what you have finished. the thing is, if you have some papers in your hands, you have more edge in this rat race.
